01 -
Stir together your flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Keep it aside for later.
02 -
Using a large mixing bowl, whip the butter with sugar until it's all fluffy. Throw in the eggs along with the vanilla and mix thoroughly.
03 -
Slowly fold your flour mixture into the butter mixture and keep mixing until you get a smooth dough.
04 -
Split the dough into two equal portions. Add orange coloring to one and black to the other. Mix each until the colors are even. Clean the tools and bowl to avoid color mixing.
05 -
Flatten each dough portion into rectangles, wrap them up in plastic, and stick them in the fridge for somewhere between 1 and 2 hours.
06 -
Roll out the dough to about ⅛–¼ inch thick, then layer them (start with orange at the bottom and black on top). Trim the sides to even it out.
07 -
If you’d like, dab some water along the sides of your dough and gently press the sprinkles in.
08 -
Roll the layered dough into a log, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it chill in the fridge for at least an hour.
09 -
Warm your oven to 350°F. Cut the log into slices about ¼–½ inch thick and position them on a baking sheet lined with parchment, leaving a 2-inch space between each.
10 -
Pop them in the oven and cook for 10-12 minutes, or until their tops look set and not wet.
