Beef Rice Onion Bake (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Essentials

01 - 1½ sticks of butter, cut into slices (about ¾ cup)
02 - 2 uncooked cups long-grain white rice (avoid instant kinds)
03 - ¾ cup plain water
04 - 2 cans (10.5 ounces each) classic French onion soup
05 - 2 cans (10.5 ounces each) beef broth or consommé
06 - ½ to 1 teaspoon garlic salt (adjust to your taste)
07 - 1 pound of ground beef, preferably lean

# Instructions:

01 - Turn your oven to 425°F to preheat. As it heats, grab a 9x13-inch pan and coat it with a generous spray of cooking oil.
02 - Heat up a large skillet and toss in the ground beef with a bit of garlic salt. Cook it fully while breaking it into small, even pieces.
03 - Pour the cooked ground beef and rice into your greased pan. Add the soup, broth, and water next. Stir it all around until it looks well blended.
04 - Take all those butter slices and evenly lay them over the mixture. They'll melt down and bring loads of deliciousness.
05 - Use foil to cover the top of the dish and set it in the heated oven for 30 minutes.
06 - Take the foil off and let it cook for another 30 minutes, or until it's bubbling and piping hot.
07 - When everything's ready, fluff up the dish softly with a fork and dish it out while it's warm.

# Notes:

01 - Want fewer dirty pans? Use a heavy cast iron Dutch oven or large 12-inch cast iron pan. Brown the beef in it first, mix in the other stuff, and bake straight from there!
